一、SAT数学考核何种能力
读者可能认为作者问错了问题。真的，SAT数学考核的内容不是数学本身。尽管考的是数学题目，但实质上测的是能力和素 质，可谓醉翁之意不在酒。更为具体地说，SAT数学不是测试考 生掌握了多少数学知识，而是通过数学这个媒介测试考生的综合 能力，或者直接地说它是在考核考生的智商。在前面的章节里我 们已经说过了今天的SAT考试起源于智商考试，尽管经过了多年 的演变，内容上发生了不少变化，但直至今日SAT考试仍然有智 商考试的影子，所以数学考试有一点象是智商测试题的数学部分 。这就很容易地解释了以下几个疑问：

2.为什么无论考文科还是考理科的考生都使用同一试卷和同一评分标准?

二、SAT数学试题的特点
SAT数学是中国考生最有可能得满分的一个部分。作者认为理科的考生都应力争在这一科目上得到满分。前节已经说了，就 知识内容本身来讲中国学生不存在任何问题，在这里还要告诉大 家的是就难度来说，中国学生也不成问题，SAT数学的题目都是 基本问题，求解时不需要特殊的方法和技巧。那么剩下的问题就 是在考场上如何避免一切不该发生的错误，也就是说如何防止粗 心大意了。说起来容易，做起来难，下面的方法和措施希望能对 考生有所帮助。
1.正确理解题意。这就要求做到以下两点：一个是熟知基本数学用语的英文单词;另一个是熟悉英语数学试题的表述方法。
2.牢记防止粗心大意的三个要点：
要点1：一定要审好题，即搞清楚明给的条件，暗示的条件 以及所求的内容。
要点2：一定要一步一步地演算，不要跳过每一步骤。你可 能认为这样会耽误时间，作者想说的是这样一步一个脚印地走下 去不仅不会耽误时间，反而因为不用回头检查会节省时间;况且 往往检查的思路和作题思路相同，常常有错也不易查出。
要点3：确认直接求得的未知数是否是试题的最后所问。SAT 试题中常有类似X+1等于几的问题，考生常常解出了X就完事了， 忘了题目问的是X+1而不是X。
