When it comes to someone who is knowledgeable, I would like to talk about a person whom I follow on Weibo, the Chinese version of twitter. His screen name is Gudabaihua. Since I don’t really know what his real name is, let me just call him Gu.
I came to know Gu last year, at a long sleepless night when I was browsing my social media. I was on Weibo, and saw Gu’s name there on a list where most net celebrities long to be on. It was a list of names of the hottest net celebrities of that year, and Gu, if I remember right, took the third place. I’d say that’s really something for people like him.
Later, I got curious about him, and clicked into his Weibo home page. Turned out he is a great fan of American talk shows, and what he often does is posting some really interesting videos and pictures online, all related to the hottest movies or TV shows in the US. And to every single video and picture he added some precisely translated Chinese sub-titles so that people who don’t understand English can join the party as well. Needless to say, this also benefits us English learners a lot, for it’s not always easy to find such interesting and high-quality English learning materials online, not even today. You see, Gu has a deep understanding about the American slangs and pop culture. Thus, he is able to understand the funny points and underlying meanings which most people can’t fully understand, in those talk show lines. A lot of his fans would often ask him questions about American slangs on Weibo, and he is always willing to share with them his ideas.
Gu’s knowledge of American slangs impresses me greatly. Besides, he is also very humorous. I usually burst into laughter when I read his bloggers. In September this year, Apple has released the new iPhone X. Here is how Gu explained why there is no iPhone 9, ‘because 7 8 (ate) 9’. Funny, right?
In a word, he has brought a lot of happiness to me. I wish I could be as knowledgeable as he is.
