每一个想要进入美国上大学的考生都会经历很漫长的SAT备考阶段，并且背单词也会贯彻始终，但大部分同学所理解的背SAT单词只是意味着背下对应的中文释义，其实最关键的还是要掌握好其中的使用技巧，和应用情景。
首先我们看一个SAT词汇：
spontaneous
背过单词的同学都知道这是自然的，自发的意思，我们再来看一个句子，出自2013年1月SAT长文章 Building and humans
Unfortunately, the self we miss at suchmoments, the elusively authentic, creative, and spontaneous side of ourcharacter, is not ours to summon at will. Our access to it is, to a humblingextent, determined by the places we happen to be in, by the color of thebricks, the height of the ceiling and the layout of the streets.
于是这里的spontaneous怎么理解?如果简单理解为自然的，自发的就很难了。这也是SAT一个很难得知识点，如何理解文学评论中的抽象词。
我们来看看spontaneous的英文释义：
performed or occurring as a result of asudden inner impulse or inclination and without premeditation or externalstimulus
一个例句：The audience broke into spontaneous applause.
于是通过英文解释我们知道了spontaneous的意思是 without premeditation(也就是plan的意思)，所以我们可以同义词替换spontaneous为 without plan，于是这句话就很容易理解了。就是毫无准备的我们的一面。
在做SAT文学评论文章的时候，我们会处理大量的抽象词，所以巧妙利用同义词就可以很简单的来理解这些很难得抽象词了。
下面我们再看一句话

Harbor的意思是港口，避风港 (n) 庇护，躲避(v)
但是在这里并翻译不通，于是联想到同义词助记法，我们知道harbor的意思是hide, give a shelter. 于是这句话的意思就变得很明确了。
