  范文

Several years ago, I tried to learn how to bake cakes with a rice cooker and succeeded in making it. My roommate is a baking genius and she taught me how to bake cakes at home.

Learning how to bake cakes was pretty difficult for me at that time. First of all, the portions of materials used were hard to control because I didn't have enough professional cooking tools. When I tried to make a cake by myself, I estimated all the materials and merged them together. What’s more, I immediately put the hodgepodge into the rice cooker and turned it into a wrong pattern, which I have never noticed until my friend told me. As you can imagine, the result was a nightmare. I failed several times, and finally succeeded when she helped me to do it. Secondly, baking cakes in rice cooker is different from baking in oven. I couldn't change the temperature of rice cooker and have no idea how well the cake became with the time passing by either. When I did it alone, I always turn off the cooker too early or too late.

My roommate solved every problem I had. She has many baking tools that are so convenient, and told me how to use it. She also told me which pattern should I turn to, and most importantly, she taught me many useful tips in the baking process. For example, put some butter in the bottle to prevent the cake from being over-cooked, and when the vapor ‘calms down’, wait for 5 minutes and open the cooker.

What I have learned from her are far more than skills of baking. I was always irritable, but she was patient. I remember how she told me to be patient and told me “the best thing comes when you least expect it”. Since then, I tried to be careful and gentle, putting these words in my heart. I need to say that I benefit from her suggestion a lot, and that’s why I think what she taught me was so impressive.
