  Describe an invention that has changed the world.

  You should say:

  what it is;

  how it’s changed our life;

  how popular it is among different age groups;

  and explain how you feel about it.

  I would like to pick the 'Light Bulb' as one such invention that has very positively influenced the human race.

  This single invention of science has uplifted the human race towards prosperity and the modern world. Think about the world without any lights in the dark and we would have been no different than living in a cave. The great scientist Thomas Edison is credited to invent the light bulb and till then many improvements have been done to it.

  The bulb is the main source of illumination and light at night time when the Sun is hiding at the opposite side of the world. We are so habituated with the electricity and light bulbs that we might wonder if it is a life-changing invention or not.

  But think about living your life for few days without the bulbs and then you would realise the true importance of this single invention. Some may argue that fuel powered lighting system could have been alternative to it, but the reality is that that would have been too expensive and could not have been an easy source for lighting the houses,

  Think about the other living beings other than human; they mostly get back to their living place in the evening and except some nocturnal animals and birds, most of them stay at their living place till the morning.

  They rarely do anything at night and that's because they are afraid of the dark and have no vision to see at night. As the human, we could have some lighting system if we did not know how to illuminate the light bulb but that would not have been so widespread without the invention of the light bulb. Scientific inventions are interrelated and one invention or theory inspired and accelerates the invention of other important inventions.

  The Light bulb is one such invention that has inspired the invention and research of other inventions. This is the single invention that has made us free from being active only at day time when the sun is there.

  某网评定的几个改变世界的发明

  plow(犁):入选理由

  No one knows who invented the plow, or exactly when it came to be. It probably developed independently in a number of regions, and there is evidence of its use in prehistoric eras. Prior to the plow, humans were subsistence farmers or hunter/gatherers. Their lives were devoted solely to finding enough food to survive from one season to the next. Growing food added some stability to life, but doing it by hand was labor intensive and took a long time. The plow changed all that.

  wheel(轮子):入选理由

  The wheel made the transportation of goods much faster and more efficient, especially when affixed to horse-drawn chariots and carts. However, if it had been used only for transportation, the wheel wouldn't have been as much of a world-changer as it was. In fact, a lack of quality roads limited its usefulness in this regard for thousands of years.

  A wheel can be used for a lot of things other than sticking them on a cart to carry grain, though. Tens of thousands of other inventions require wheels to function, from water wheels that power mills to gears and cogs that allowed even ancient cultures to create complex machines. Cranks and pulleys need wheels to work. A huge amount of modern technology still depends on the wheel, like centrifuges used in chemistry and medical research, electric motors and combustion engines, jet engines, power plants and countless others.

  printing press(印刷术):入选理由

  The printing press allowed enormous quantities of information to be recorded and spread throughout the world. Books had previously been items only the extremely rich could afford, but mass production brought the price down tremendously. The printing press is probably responsible for many other inventions, but in a more subtle way than the wheel. The diffusion of knowledge it created gave billions of humans the education they needed to create their own inventions in the centuries since.

  感觉这个话题比较难,所以,大家需及早准备,做好功课。选定一种植物,然后好好整理一些语料。

  I would like to describe about Fat Choy which is a plant grown in the deserts in the northern part of China. You may link up Fat Choy with the famous Chinese Greetings "Kung Hei Fat Choy" when you heard about it at the first time. Yes, they are pronounce in the same way in Chinese. It is black in color and looks like vermicelli when it is soaked with water.

  Fat Choy is used in some Chinese Recipes and the dishes are quite popular during Chinese New Year. People like to have some dishes which relates to rich and wealth at the beginning of a year. Thanks to its name pronouncing similar to Kung Hei Fat Choi, Fat Choi is always in great demand. Interesting enough, nutritionists examine Fat Choy and confirm that it has no nutrition value at all, although they are loved by the Chinese people.

  I personally like the plant. But I don't like to have it in my dishes. Fat Choy is important to northern part of China, not because of its name relating to wealth, but its unique function in the wild to anchor the sand in desert. Over harvesting of Fay Choy has already brought a disaster consequence of worsening the desertification of northern part of China.

  To make things worst, Fat Choy is a plant in the wild and planting it artificially is difficult. It could only be grown in the dessert with some other specific environmental factors. Fat Choy is now in extinction. I personally like this plant very much because of its strong characteristic, uniqueness and usefulness. And I would like to take any chance to advocate protection of Fay Choy within and outside China. It is already good to greet your friend with "Kung Hei Fat Choy" during Chinese New Year and you can leave Fay Choy in the dessert.

  Describe a time that you arrived at a place early.

  You should say:

  When it happened;

  Where it happened;

  What you did ;

  and explain why you arrived there early.

  解析:

  题目要求描述早到一个地方的一次经历,需要描述这个经历事件的基本要素,并且叙述你早到那个地方的原因。

  It is a detailed recall of my memory. As for a time that I arrived at a place early, I would like to say the experience that I took part in the IELTS speaking test at first time. It was in May of 2015. My speaking test venue was Beijing Language and Culture University at that time. I got up one and an half hour earlier than usual for the speaking test. When I got there, I had to wait for one hour before I could enter the test classroom. So I opened my book to review the speaking topics. Suddenly a girl who was also sitting the waiting room dropped her personal water bottle. All water splashed and flowed out but it seemed that she didn’t take any facial tissues or napkins to clean it up. She looked like embarrassed. Then I gave her mine. She was very grateful. After the test, she asked me to go with her. And now we have become friends.

  I went to the test venue early because I didn’t have enough preparation for my speaking test. You know, at that moment, getting up earlier and arrive there earlier could be a kind of psychological compensation and comfort since you have no other choice or efforts to do for the test. Besides that, I wasn’t familiar with the route to get there although I was sure it was not so complicated to find the university. I didn’t have a good score of my IELTS speaking test at that time, but unexpectedly, I got a friend. The story told me that “better late than never; better earlier than later”.
