  Describe an occasion that you had a special cake.

  You should say:

  What kind of cake;

  When you ate the cake;

  Whom you ate with;

  and explain why you think it is special.

  解析:

  要求描述你吃到的一种特别的蛋糕,要求描述什么蛋糕,什么时候吃的,和谁一起吃的,以及为什么你觉得这个蛋糕特别特殊。

  Last month my best friend Cynthia once went to Paris for a business trip. And she brought me a box of delicate chestnut cake, which I think it’s very special till now. They were hexagon shape cake with rich and fine icing sugar on the top. All side edges were decorated with M&M’s chocolate beans, they were colorful and cute even with tiny smile faces on each topside. They had delicate and smooth taste. The strong fresh chestnut and chocolate fragrance was so tempting. There were all six cakes in the box. Cynthia and I ate them together at the roadside. A homeless cat shared it with us.

  I think it’s special till now because I haven’t eaten such authentic chestnut cakes before. Besides that, Cynthia just suffered a failure in a relationship before she went to Paris for a business trip. She was driven to a state of broken-down because of the “jerk”. I tried to comfort her and drop everything. But it’s easier said than done. She was afraid of making mistakes during the business trip but I told her to relax and regarded it as an opportunity for travelling. When she rushed to see me and told me that everything would be fine, she brought me the cake. Desserts are the best solutions to sad girls. The chestnut cakes marked a new start for Cynthia.

  When I was a little child, my mother told me a story about 12 Chinese Zodiac signs. It’s exactly about the sequence of animal year. It was coming up to the New Year. Twelve animals were arguing. There were a rat, an ox, a tiger, a sheep, a rabbit, a dragon, a snake, a dog, a horse, a rooster, a monkey, and a pig. They thought the New Year should have a name. They were arguing because each animal wanted the year to be named after himself. There was such a noise that they disturbed the Jade Emperor. “Whatever is the matter with you, animals?” Jade Emperor asked. One by one, they explained their problem. The Jade Emperor asked the animals to take part in a swim race across the big river. They he would decide the name of this New Year after the winner of the race. All animals agreed but each one secretly thought that they would be the winner. They all hurried to the river and lined up for the race. With a mighty splash, the animals leaped into the river and started swimming as fast as they could towards the other side. The rat wasn’t the best swimmer but he was clever enough to grab and hold the ox’s tail, who was going to be the first one to win the race. Just before the ox reached the other side of the river, the rat leaped over his head onto the bank. Then this New Year was named the year of the rat. Ox was the second. Therefore the Jade Emperor names each New Year after each of the animal in the same order that he finished the race.

  I remembered the story because of my mother’s vivid description. Besides that, I once asked my parents how ancient Chinese people decide the sequence of 12 Chinese Zodiac signs. The story is one version of the answer, which may not be true but very persuasive. I think the story could be passed down from generation to generation since it conveys part of the Chinese ancient culture. I like the story for it shows the rich imagination and creativity of our ancestors.

  Describe a time you had a conversation with a stranger.

  You should say:

  Where it happened;

  When it happened;

  What you talked with each other;

  and explain how you felt about it.

  解析:

  题目要求描述一次和陌生人谈话的一次经历,需要描述这次经历的时间和地点,以及谈话内容还有自己的一些感受等。

  While my journey in a train to my hometown the year before last, I had a very interesting conversation with a person named Daniel who was a journalist of a daily newspaper. I can't recall his last name but he was a man around 35 years and sat next to me on the train. I usually read books in long journeys or listen to music. That day I was reading a book by Dan Brown and the person who sat next to me asked about the book. This is how the conversation started. The conversation was mostly about writers in general, the political condition in our country, the role of an ideal leader, journalism, corruptions and the major problems of our country. I rarely continue longer conversations with strangers but that conversation I had on the train was pretty different and lasted almost 3-4 hours.

  This conversation was interesting mostly because of three reasons: one, the person I had the conversation with was a smooth talking person with good knowledge and experience. Secondly, the way the conversation started and progressed was really interesting. I took my whole effort to debate on issues that I did not agree and also agreed with the notion that was similar to my viewpoint. Though this person was around 12 years senior to me, he never took any advantages of it and even he did not give any hint about it in the issued I disagreed with him. He treated me as an equally skilled opponent on many issues and listened to me very attentively. Finally, the place and circumstances when the conversation took place were really interesting and unusual. I must say, I learned many things from the opinions and experiences he shared that day.
