Describe a good photo you like.
you should say:
when you saw it
where you saw it
what is in the photo
and explain how you felt when you saw it
英文中有句话叫“a picture is worth a thousand words”。每一幅优秀的摄影作品,背后都在讲述一个动人的故事;Logan今天要给大家分享的是20世纪最著名的照片之一:阿富汗少女。
I would never forget a photo named “The Afghan Girl”. I think you’ve probably seen it before somewhere coz it’s one of the most famous photographs of the 20th century.
It’s a half-length portrait of a 12-year-old Afghan girl taking shelter in a refugee camp in Pakistan. She’s wearing a ragged saffron scarf, complimented by a stretch of olive green in the background, creating a peculiar contrast, which foreshadows the context of the image. The saffron scarf is a sharp indicator of the war and pain that Afghan people were suffering from back then. And this out-of-focus olive green is the temporary tranquility she found in this instable refugee camp.
Then it is within this dynamic contrast stands out her beautiful and peaceful face. There is literally no noticeable facial expression, which drives me crazy to wonder what was in her mind. Was it anger, fear, sorrow, pain, indifference, anxiety, or perhaps all of them blended together?
What really haunted me are her eyes. I’ve never seen eyes like that: it’s a stretch of sea green, with a thin rim of ocean blue and an amber disc at the centre. Her pupils are half-open, and when you look into them, you find nothing and everything. Her eyes have the power to see through my heart and captivate my soul. I can’t help but ask myself why such a beautiful innocent face have to bear so much pain and hardship. It makes me want to be a good person and do something to make the world a better place.
The photo was taken by an National Geographic photographer, and made it on the cover of the magazine. Lots of people were astounded by this amazing picture and tried to discover her identity. After 17 years, people finally found her, who, at the time, already had a happy family. It’s a relief when I learned about this. I wish her a peaceful and happy life, and I hope that no country would have to suffer from war ever again.
