Describe a good law from your country.
you should say:
what law it is
how you know about this law
whay the law was made
and explain why you think it is a good law?
Last year, the enactment of a new legislation drew almost everyone’s attention.
The law demands all adults to pay a certain number of visits to their parents every year. The government explained that the aim is to protect the senior citizens. You see, today many young people work and live far away from their home cities and their parents. As a result, a large number of elderly people are left alone at home unattended. Living in poverty and solitude, many people suffer from psychological issues, some even committed suicide.
This enactment was held up to ridicule by a lot of critics. They pointed out that this law can’t be enforced because it’s just impossible to supervise so many people in China.
Well, I have to say that they do have a point. It might not be able to solve the problems, but still I think it’s a good thing to begin with.
At the very least, it did bring to light the problems that elderly people are suffering from today, and the society have started to pay serious attention to this group of people.
What’s more, it also sparked a much more important discussion about the function of law. Some people said that taking care of the elder generation is more of a moral duty than a legal responsibility, therefore the legislative bodies have no business in this case. But, as a matter of fact, morality has always been the very foundation of legislation. The reason we consider something illegal is ultimately because we think it’s morally wrong.
So I think it’s great to see the government starts to make laws to promote moral principles which we hold true. And I hope that more laws like this can be introduced in the days to come.
