今天先给大家带来一个 Part One的一个大家不太熟悉的新话题:CAMPING。
Camping
Before we begin to answer all kinds of questions about camping, let’s make one thing clear:
What does it mean by “gocamping”?
If you took a long journey in the wilderness, you’d have to camp for the nights. But in this case, “camping” is the means to achieve the goal—“travelling”. If you were to go camping, however, your goal is to “camp”—to spend one or two nights outdoors to get close to the nature, to appreciate the sunrise and sunset, to stay away from busy city life and to relax… etc.
Did you ever go camping?
I bet that not many students in China ever went camping. The reasons are as follows.
First of all, moms and dads wouldn’t allow. Chinese parents are always over-protective about their kids, and camping is considered “highly dangerous”. People who go camping are open to the risks such as encountering wild lives, getting lost in the forests, falling from the mountain, drowning in the river…etc.
On top of that, camping is quite costly. An ordinary double-layered water-proof tend alone would cost as much as RMB three to five thousand; following up are two grand for the backpack, another three to five K for the clothing, an additional two thousand for the gears—that's just the essentials. Camping is a luxury that many people can’t afford.
Why do some peoplelike to go camping?
Most importantly, as is mentioned above, camping is a good way to relax. Bathing in the beauty and glory of the nature while staying away from all the trivialities and regularities of life is, for me at least, the best way to clear up my mind and think about the big questions.
What’s more, it’s always good to learn some basic surviving skills…just in case. How to tell directions, how to make fire, how to set up a tent, how to find food and water, what to do when encountering wild animals…there are loads of things to learn before going out for a camping.
Essential tipsabout camping:
Always choose to camp in a location that is:
Near water, but not too close to it, especially in a raining season.
On the high ground, but not on the top of amountain. You might literally get “stunned”.
Away from the cliff, away from the “free”falls.
On the leeward side, especially when yougot a crappy tent.
On the shady side. Camping alone is “hot”enough.
