Your friend is about to start a new job. What kind of advice would you like to offer to him?
I would say the following:
“Starting a job can be overwhelming and many preparations must be made if you wish to be successful. Here are a few tips.
“First and foremost, dress for success. Start by recreating your wardrobe and sprucing up your appearance. It is paramount to dress appropriately for the job you’ve landed because first impressions can be lasting. If you’re dressed to impress, you probably will. One size doesn’t fit all, people assume "professional" means a suit, but it depends on the company or industry. You don’t want to show up in a suit if everyone wears jeans. But it’s better to be a bit overdressed than underdressed for the first few days.
“Moreover, be communicative. Always be in touch and approachable. Speak up, ask questions, make suggestions and, periodically, check-in with your boss. Listening is just as important as speaking. Start a conversationwith your boss and let him know how you’re doing. Try to always be on top of your game.”
