University Should Allow Students to Audit Classes

Many universities allow students to audit classes. That is, students may attend lectures and discussions for a particular class without completing the assignments, receiving a grade, or earning credit for the class. I think our university should allow this. Auditing classes would be good for interested students, since they would be able to learn more and experience a variety of different classes that they would not otherwise be able to take. Furthermore, it shouldn't create ant difficulties or additional obligations for professors, because these students wouldn't take tests or white papers that need to be graded.

  Sincerely,

  Samuel Stuart

The woman expresses her opinion about the letter writer's proposal. Briefly summarize the proposal. Then state her opinion about the proposal and explain the reasons she gives for holding that opinion.

  Preparation Time: 30 seconds

  Response Time: 60 seconds

  范文:

The letter supposes that students should be allowed to audit class. It also gives two reasons: one reason is it can help interested students to learn more and enrich their experience; the other reason is because auditing students are not asked to take exams or be graded, so it will add no workload to professors. However, the woman rebuts this proposal. She thinks accepting auditing students will be bad for students who are taking this class because auditing students won’t spend enough time to prepare before class and thus will affect the quality of class discussion. The second reason given by her is although it seems that little workload will be added, in fact professors will still need to memorize extra names and need to answer the questions from auditing students. So it also requires professor’s lots of attention.

  Integrated Farming

Many farmers keep animals and raise crops at the same time. While some farmers treat the cultivation of their animals and plants as two separate activities, others integrate the two so that they work together. This is called integrated farming. Integrated farming uses the natural behavior of animals in a way that helps to keep both animals and crops healthy and thriving. By integrating a particular animal with a specific crop, farmers create a system in which both animals and plants provide for each other’s needs.

Explain how the example from the lecture illustrate the concept of integrated farming.

  Preparation Time: 30 seconds

  Response Time: 60 seconds

  范文:

The passage introduces a notion called integrated farming. This kind of farming means farmers make animals and crops work together to keep both of them healthy and growing well. The listening material provides one example for this concept. In the track the man talks about an integrated farming pattern using chickens and bean plants. Farmers will put the chickens in a cage with four walls but no floor. And there are wheels on this cage so it can be moved from one place to another. So when farmers want to plant beans in certain area, they will move this cage to that area for a period of time. In this period of time, chickens will pack soil and eat the weeds or other plants. With this process, the quality of soil will be better because there will be no weeds or other plants as competitors to fight sunlight and water with beans plants.
