According to the announcement, we get to know that the university is considering
increasing the tuition and fees by about8% next term because they have stayed
the same in the past 5 years. And the increase will be used to employ additional
professors and upgrade lab facilities.
From the conversation, we clearly learn that the woman thinks it’s right for the school to do that.
One reason she gives is that it is necessary for the university to hire more teachers because the classes are getting too crowded and it’s hard to get personal attention from her professors. She also learns that the man couldn’t even take a math course because it was already full when he signed up.
Another reason she gives is that it’s good for the school to spend the money improving the limited and out of-date laboratory facilities because she can get the practical laboratory experience, which is important for her to find a good job after graduation.
Therefore, she agrees with the idea.

Now listen carefully.
W: I can’t believe this! They’re canceling the student health center. How can they do this without even a hearing with the Student Union.
M: Uh…I think they have a rather good reason for doing this. They say the new community hospital is pretty close. Isn’t it
W: Well, I see your point, but the fact is that the new hospital is at least 10 to 15 minutes’ driving distance away from our campus. Some students don’t have the proper transportation or if they have the vehicle but get too sick to drive, it can be a real problem.
M: Right! The student health center is within walking distance. So the students can simply walk there. But the community hospital has better facilities, which is a good thing, right
W: Oh… no. I don’t like that fancy equipment no matter how expensive it is. You know, most students see doctors for very minor problems like a cold, the flu or sports injuries. Our health center usually provides adequate treatment for these minor health problems.
M: You’re quite right in saying this, but at least the opening of a new hospital won’t make it worse, just look on the bright side.
W: To be honest, I am not that optimistic. Can you imagine many students will drive a long distance to the hospital and wait for hours in line just for very little problems like a cold Of course not. I think once the student health center has been canceled, most people with minor health problems will just let it be instead of going to that big fancy hospital.

According to the announcement, we get to know that the school is considering cancelling the health center because a new hospital has been built in the community and it has first-class equipment.
Also the money saved will be used to enlarge book collections in the library.
From the conversation, we clearly learn that the woman doesn't like the idea.
One reason she gives is that the new hospital is too far. It’s about ten to fifteen minutes’ drive.
Some students don’t have a car or they are too sick to drive.
Another reason is that most students see the doctors for very minor problems like a cold, the flu or sports injuries and the school health center has adequate treatment for these problems. It’s unnecessary for students to drive to the well-equipped community hospital and to wait for a long time just for minor health problems.
Therefore, she disagrees with that opinion.

A New Art Building
The university had decided to construct a new art building to help advance the office and teaching facilities of the arts department. This is because the school administrations are reasoning that the current art building was designed half a century ago and it no longer meets today’s requirement. In addition, since the neighboring universities all have developed their new art buildings one or two years ago, the school authorities believe it may also help to attract upcoming arts students as soon as the new construction is accomplished.
