  1. Describe a book that you believe is the most useful to you. Please explain the reason and include specific examples and details in your explanation. (最崇

  拜的一个人)

“A man can be destroyed but not defeated.” Right! The Old Man and the Sea by Hemingway is the most important book for me.

When I was in the abyss of despair for the career blow, I met this book in the library and was immediately fascinated by it because this book gave me insights into the concept of failure which means to get up again and never stop chasing one‛s dream.

I had also learned what is hero—a hero is the one who dares to face the frustration, who dares to challenge the difficult, who dares to overcome his own, and who eventually conquers the defeat.

The book helps me to go regain my courage for future, and finally I went out of the nightmares and then got a booming development in my career.

So, the Old man and Sea is definitely the most important book for me.

2.Which of the following statements do your agree with? Please give specific reasons for your opinion. Some believe that TV programs have a positive influence on modern society. Others, however, think that the influence of TV programs is negative.

Personally speaking, television has more positive effects towards the modern society than its negative sides. Firstly, the television has significantly made our world smaller. Through news broadcasting in the television, we can be informed of what is happening in all around the world even without stepping out our living room. For example, my classmates and I watched Obama‛s inauguration thousands of miles away from American. Without television, this would not able to come true. Secondly, watching television with family members after supper is a good way to relax after a day‛s hard work. And it is also a good way to enhance the affections between family members. So, I think that television has more positive effects than its negative sides.

3.Describe the most important decision that you made in your life.

  (你最喜欢的地方、城市)

The most important decision that I have made in my life is to study in Nanjing. You know, my hometown is very small and remote, but Nanjing is a cosmopolitan city. It is in this city that I gained many opportunities to develop myself.

For one thing, being elected the president of Student Union, I was able to cooperate with student leaders from the other colleges in the city.

For another, as the volunteer leader for the 4th Session of the World Urban Forum held in Nanjing last year. I interviewed people from all over the world, such as the officers from Asian Development Bank. And this enriched my experience.

All of these add to my love of this city. So the decision to study in Nanjing is the most important I have ever made.

  4. Do you think the high school should teach music and art as other basic science?

Music and art should be important components of the school curriculum because they have many uses besides recreation.

To study music is to study the basics. Through its study, students come into contact with other basic areas of the curriculum. Such as math, science, social studies, languages, and physical education. Apart from that, music, like reading, writing and speaking, conveys thoughts, ideas and feelings. It also provides an avenue for developing self-expression and creativity.

On the other hand, art education in itself has tremendous value. Learning about the history, sharing ideas and knowledge, is always a good thing.

Music and art, therefore, as important parts of our lives, should be taught in high school.

  5.空闲时间用来做什么?()

I usually do three kinds of things to spend my spare time.

The first is reading. I love reading, especially in a silent environment such as library. Through reading, I can travel through from prehistory to the future and from North Pole to South Pole. It‛s so amazing!

The second is doing sports. Every morning, I jog 2 kilometers, and every weekend, I swim 1 kilometer. This can keep me healthy and energetic.

And the last one is to do voluntary work in the Stray dogs rescue organization in my city. We help to raise enough money to purchase food and medicine as well as to pay rent for the house that we hired as a shelter for the poor dogs.

These are what I do when I am free, they are simple but meaningful.

6.Some people think that it’s necessary to prohibit people from using phone calls in some places. Others believe that it’s inconvenient if phone calls are forbidden in some places. Which opinion do you prefer? Explain you’re your statement should include specific examples and details.

I strongly agree with the opinion that cell-phone usage should be banned in some places like concert halls, movie theaters or in some situations like when you are driving in cars or taking a subway, when you are in flight, in classes or meetings.

For one thing, it has become social etiquette. The cell phone user should know when and where to pick up the cell phone and talk. Though people have personal right to use their phone, the others are not supposed to be involved in the unnecessary disturbance.

For another, cell phone usage can harm a person's health. Brain cancer rates in the US have risen since cell phones were introduced, leading some people to wonder if cell phone usage is the reason for the increase.

In recognition of those above, there should be some kind of regulations helping with this problem. This way people will be well aware.

7.Describe a celebration or moment which has made a deep impression on you. Please explain the impression and include specific examples and details in you explanation.。(最喜欢的时光)

There is no doubt that the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games Opening Ceremony is the most impressive moment in my life by far. As a lucky one, I have a ticket of the grand meeting so that I can enjoy it on-site! How can I forget it! The ceremony began officially on Friday 8th August 2008 at 8pm in front of a crowd of 90,000 eager spectators in the Bird's Nest stadium. Things got off to a bang with an initial firework display which lit up Beijing's skyline, followed by a total of 2,008 energetic drummers beating a countdown. Then the crowd was treated to an amazing sequence of intricately-choreographed, beautifully-lit vignettes which took us through 5,000 years of Chinese history and culture. After these performances, Olympic founders Greece led the 204 competing nations into the stadium. Finally, the cauldron was lit by a jet of fire from Chinese Olympic hero Li Ning, who had been hoisted up to the roof of the stadium on wires. And then the Olympic began! It‛s so amazing!

  8. Which one acts more influence on you newspaper, TV or teachers?

I definitely think that it is TV that influences me most among the three.

Firstly, TV brings us the latest news from all over the world and all kinds of

knowledge in every realm. This helps to broaden our horizons. I could still remember

my first chemistry class is not in the school but on the television, which leaded to

a tiny accident in my kitchen. Ha-ha, luckily, nobody was hurt.

Secondly, TV Holds fashion trends. Whenever a star wears eye-catching attire in

a TV show, it wouldn‛t be long before this style become popular. It is same for a

singer. If the singer‛s MTV could be recommended by a program host, his/her album

will probably become a best seller. And I will buy one copy, too

  .

So, it is the TV that acts more influence on me .

  9. Describe a social or politics celebration events in your culture.

  (最喜欢的时光)

Speaking of social celebration in my culture, there is one day of the year that is second to none, the Chinese New Year, which is also called the Spring Festival by most Chinese People.

Even if you don‛t like most festive events, you still cannot resist the charm of a family reunion dinner which marks the defining feature of the Spring Festival.

If you ever had the similar experience I came through in celebrating the day with folks from four generations, I think you would agree with me that the festive and auspicious feeling would haunt you from time to time, and part of that, of course, comes from the longstanding tradition of our culture. Family members make toasts for each other in order to wish for joy, peace, health and fortune for the next year.

  What a wonderful festival!

  10.政府是否应该资助建博物馆和剧院。说出你的观点和理由。

In my point of view, government should provide fund to build museums and theaters because they serve as exhibition centers for people to know about the history and culture of the country.

The range of museums is fantastic—there are museums of ancient history and archaeology, of natural history and even museums for such things as transportation and crime! And because the museums often hold new exhibitions, there is always something different to see.

Theaters offer people a big place to enjoy a variety of operas and plays of different regions. Meanwhile, the building of the museums and theaters will enhance the cultural exchange between countries.

They are also one of the contributing factors that promote the national economy.

That's why I think it's a good idea for government to help with the building of museums and theaters.
