(1)Road construction can seriously harm both animal lives and plant lives.
(2)First, this causes the movement of plant species from one place or another. This causes serious problems for the existing species, because the new plants compete with the existing plants for resources. For example, this happens in California with the weed, the star thistles. Their seeds got stuck in the tire and travel to other places and competed with the existing plants for resources.
(3)Another effect is that highways serve as natural barriers that animals are afraid to cross. So they stay in the areas where there are not enough resources. For example, the Kit foxes that live in the western United States who feed on mice or squirrels that spread on vast grasslands. Thus, because of the roads, the population of them declined significantly.
