(1)Lakes can disappear: sometimes through natural processes; sometimes through human activities.
(2)First, by getting gradually filled in by sediments. This often happens where there are a lot of plants growing in them. When the plants die, they break down into muddy substances fall down into the lake. They were later replaced by new plants which die and fall to the bottom. Over the years, they dead plants start to fill up the lake. Finally, the lake gets completely filled in and disappears.
(3)Another is a result of human activities. Sometimes, farmers pump the water out of a nearby lake into their nearby fields. And if the lakes cannot be refilled by rain water or streams, they eventually dry up.
