(1)Quite a lot of animals have the ability to move around underground.
(2)One benefit is to minimize the animals’ exposure to extreme temperatures. For example, a species of lizard in Sahara desert in Africa has this ability. Thus, it does not have to travel on the surface.
(3)Another benefit is that it can help animals capture prey, since animals on the surface cannot see predators approaching underground. The lizard in Sahara desert serves as an example. If an insect is moving underground, it produces a subtle vibration in the sand. Thus, the lizard can sense the vibration, move towards it underground, and capture it out of surprise.
