(1) a long vacation
1) If you really want to know some place, you'd better spend more time in there. A long vacation allows enough time for you to get to know the place as well as the culture and people there very well.
2) You can take your time during a long vacation in one place instead of rushing to several places and wear yourself out during the trip. A long vacation is very relaxing and energy-saving.
(2) short vacations
1) I would like to go to as many places as I can during free time. Several short vacations give me the chance to go to many places and experience something new every time.
2) A long vacation will cost more money. Several short vacations are more cost effective.
