  2014.8.23ML综合口语解析

  A卷

Task 1: Your university of planning to replace paper books with electronic books, what is the advantage and disadvantage of this plan?

  Sample

The advantage of this plan is ebooks are easy to carry. Thousands of books can be loaded onto one device. These devices are small and light to carry around. Being able to search an entire book is awesome. This allows us to find a keyword within seconds. The other side of the coin is that ebooks require a reading device which can be expensive. Students have to buy new ones when it’s broken. A new model would come out every year with new features to encourage people to upgrade. The cost of these devices can be so much higher than owning paper books.

Task 2: Do you agree or disagree with the statement that it’s easier to teach primary school students than to teach university students.

  Sample

I think primary school students are harder to teach for the following reasons. First, they can get pretty naughty sometimes. My friend Tony used to teach in a primary school, he told me that kids in his class interrupt him all the time. Sometimes they even walk around the classroom when they’re supposed to be sitting down. They’re cute, but they do get really noisy from time to time. University students, on the other hand, have much better self control. They know how to sit quietly and pay attention to the teacher. They know they have to take notes without the teacher having to remind them to.

  T3

Modern literature has become more and more popular, so the university has adopted two approaches to enroll more students. The first way is to change small classrooms into bigger ones, the second way is have more session in the evening.

The man disagrees with this. Firstly because it is more convenient to have group discussions in small classroom, secondly because some students have part time jobs in the evening, they may lack time to attend the class.

  T4

  Aggressive recruiting

The sellers offer discounts during promotion period to appeal customers, then after big sales they start to charge to make profits.

In the lecture, the professor uses an example of gym to explain how effective the strategy is. During sales season, members can get free tutoring, but this free policy stops after a month. Surprisingly, most of the customers continue this service and the gym actually increases its customer basis.

  T5

A girl was in bad mood because she made a vase in ceramic class and was supposed to hand in on Wednesday but unfortunately she broke it into pieces this morning.

Solution 1: glue it together as the pieces are not tiny, but she’s afraid that the professor will discover and give her a low score

Solution 2: make a new one but she has a final test for another course which she really needs to prepare

  T6

The professor talks about two ways how sea bottom dwellers feed themselves

The first way is active method. For example, sea anemone(海葵) camouflages into plant and parasite on other sea animals and the host will release poisonous chemicals, so sea anemone can prey easily

The second way is passive method. For example, oysters don’t move a lot but wait for tiny organism sent by sea water and waves

  B卷

Task 1: The university dining hall is changing its food service to include more healthy food with lower calories. What do you think are the advantages and disadvantages of this change?

  Sample

The advantage of such plan would be obvious. Lower calorie foods like fruits, yogurt and salad are healthier than many of the hot items most schools offer now. Health conscious students should welcome this change. Cutting back junk foods like pizza and fries should be done ages ago. Of course, there are certain disadvantages to this plan. Healthy food don’t always taste good if you know what I mean. They are bland, boring flavorless. There’s nothing better than biting into a juicy burger when we are hungry. They are great for a quick fix when we need the energy.

Task 2: Some people prefer to only take the courses that are related to their future career, others prefer to take a variety of courses. Which do you think it’s better?

  Sample

I think students should only take courses that are related directly to their future career. First, the more time we spend on doing something, the better we will be at it. This will make us experts in our field, thus giving us a better shot at getting a good job after we graduate. Second, we can concentrate all our time and energy in one area. It actually save us a lot of time. All the course we take will be related to one another, they might even overlap. This means we might be able to make small changes to one paper and turn it into another class.

  T3

The student suggests the school change a room to a student lounge

Because it’s convenient for student to rest and place their textbooks

The man disagrees with this proposal.

  T4

  Plan fallacy

The professor gives an example of finishing his 10-page paper of history class.

  T5

  Problem:

Student rented an apartment but the kitchen was unavailable

  Solution1:

  Share a kitchen with a friend(inconvenient)

  Solution2:

Buy a meal plan at school cafeteria(cheap and far away)

  T6

Animals left their nest after laying eggs. They have to figure out food supply issue of their chicks before leaving

The professor talks about 2 ways to make offspring survive without them

The first way is to store at the nest

The second way is to find a place near with a plenty of food
