Task 1: Which of the following periods in life do you think is the hardest, being a kid, a teenager or an adult.
Sample
I think being a teenager is the hardest for the following reasons. First, it’s hard being a high school student. What we learn in high school is hard! We are studying so many different subjects all at the same time. There are endless assignments and tests to worry about. If I don’t get them right, I can’t face my teachers and parents. Second, there’s too much peer pressure being a teenager. People compare with each other about the clothes we wear, the shoes we put on and the grades we get. Teenagers have to try so hard to fit in to avoid being alienated at school.
Task 2: Some people prefer to live in the present, others prefer to be prepared for the future and plan ahead. Which do you prefer? Explain why.
Sample
I prefer to plan ahead and always be ready for tomorrow. First, I need to plan ahead to feel certain about myself. Sometimes life hits you hard. We must anticipate the troubles coming in our way in order to deal with them when problems present. For example, we must choose a major that has the most demand on the job market. This way we won’t waste our time on things that have little real life application. Second, planning ahead means I can always stay productive. I plan to not only finish my education with an outstanding grade, but also work a part-time job while I’m still a student so after I graduate, I’ll be able to have a resume that can impress my future employers.

Two women hold different views about a man writing on his pad on the bus. One
woman met her college classmates on the bus and they recalled the memories in their college life. She thought the man who is writing on the bus is a student who is doing his homework. The other woman who is reading a poetry on the bus thinks the man is writing a poem.

The man has a problem: he is flying back home, but he doesn’t know how to get to the airport.
There are two possible solutions:
1. take the train: He can get to the airport directly and it’s cheap. But the plane leaves at 5 am, the train leaves at 6:30 am. The only way to go is to get to the airport in the evening before the plane leaves.
2. take a taxi: it’s convenient, but much expensive. It takes 40 dollars by taxi, but it only takes 5 dollars by train.
