Task 1: Talk about a study habit of yours that’s different from others. Explain your answer in details.
Sample
I like studying late at night for the following reasons. First, it’s quiet during late at night. I concentrate better when the noise has died down in the house. It’s true wether I’m in my dorm or at home. Specially after 11, everyone’s finished their errands in the house, my mom and dad would be reading or getting ready for bed. Second, some people prefer to get up early in the morning, not me. I usually sleep in if I don’t have anything special planned. Therefore there’s no reason to go to bed early. The best part is, I don’t get much messages or emails or phones after 11. I can fully concentrate on my work with zero distraction.
Task 2: Some people prefer to shop in big shopping malls, other prefer smaller shops. Which do you prefer? Explain why in details.
Sample
I prefer to shop in big shopping malls for the following reasons. First, I can get everything I need at one place, wether it’s clothing, games or electronics. I save a lot of time traveling between different stores this way. Second, there are more sales events in bigger stores. There’re always discounts going on in major shopping malls. Also, they are better stocked. Some of the hot items can only be found in such stores when something’s first introduced to the market. Lastly, there’re more entertainments located in or near shopping malls. Be it a theater or restaurant. It’s better knowing I have something to do after shopping.
Task 3
Reading
Announcement: The university suggests students to donate money to build an art museum
Listening
The student disagrees
Reason 1: There’s an art museum downtown for students to visit already, it’s unnecessary to build another one
Reason 2: Students already donated money to build a student center and a library, they shouldn’t have to donate money again to build an art museum
Task 4
Definition: Optimal forage means some animals try to waste as little energy as possible to obtain food
Example: A kind of birds that prey on shellfish, they swoop down from sky to catch the shellfish in the water, then fly to a certain height and drop the shellfish on rocks for them to crack open, the birds choose to drop the biggest shellfish every time to obtain the highest energy, also they fly up to 5 meters high to drop the shellfish, it’s neither too high for the birds to waste energy, nor too low for the shellfish not to crack open.

Solution 2: He can go home and rewrite his paper at home

Task 6
The lecture talks about negative influences of advertisement to the environment.
Example 1: The first is to waste nature resources and second is to destroy the beauty of the nature world. The professor cites an example about her experiences to demonstrate this.
One day, she received a booklet advertisement from the kitchen ware company. But it was useless for her because she didn’t need such things for her apartment at all. And the people living around didn’t need this either. So it’s a waste of nature resources, especially trees.
Example 2: Also, the outside ads totally destroyed the nature beauty. No matter how beautiful the scenery is, it’s ugly to put up a big advertisement board.
