In contemporary settings, a new proposal that cars and vehicles should be banned on vehicle- free day to lessen the environmental pollution. In my opinion, the benefit of this measure overweighs its drawbacks.
On one hand, it is undeniable that the ban on vehicles brings benefits for an area’s development. Because this rule generates positive influence on environmental preservation and facilitates the growth of economy. For example, in some specific zones of downtown or tourist spots, only pedestrians are permitted to travel on the road for commercial or tourism function. This law stimulates the growth of local economy because travelers travelling in these areas and keep doing shopping constantly without worrying about safety. Additionally, this rule contributes to improving the environment of city , the deserted gases from vehicles are always the source of pollution. So taking bicycles or buses to replace these vehicles undoubtedly reduces the number of vehicles and lessens the seriousness of pollution.
On the other hand, the negative influence of this law also deserves attention. Primarily, the vehicle-free day means abandoning vehicles and choosing other transportation tools to go out, so this measure brings inconvenience for local residents, they have to ride bike or take buses, which is quite physical-demanding or time-consuming. Furthermore, riding bikes or taking bus extends commuting time, so it leads to low efficiency in commuting even generates some negative emotional response because citizens are forced to do it so these complaints do damage to social harmony and cohesion.
