Nuclear energy is the best source of power in meeting ever-increasing energy needs. To what extent do you agree or disagree.
Some people think they have right to use as much fresh water as they want,others otherwise believes governments should strictly control the use of fresh water as it is limited resource. Discuss both views and give your own opinion.
1、I will direct my cabinet to come up with executive actions we can take, now and in the future, to reduce pollution, prepare our communities for the consequences of climate change, and speed the transition to more sustainable sources of energy.
Consequence:结果,后果,可以替换大家常用的result等词;
speed the transition to more sustainable sources of energy:加速可替代能源的转化速度。
Sustainable:可持续的;

3、Ms McCarthy already works at the EPA, where she is in charge of air quality. That has given her a leading role drafting the administration’s most ambitious and controversial environmental rules, including limits on emissions of greenhouse gases for new power plants and strict fuel-efficiency requirements for cars. She is the natural candidate to oversee the most obvious and consequential step Mr Obama could take to stem global warming: a regulation curbing emissions from existing power plants.
Controversial:争论的;
power plants:发电厂;
strict fuel-efficiency requirements:严格的能耗效率要求;

4、Republicans do not like that idea at all, and have introduced bills in Congress to strip the EPA of its regulatory authority over greenhouse gases. (They also have no intention of passing any measures of their own to fight climate change.) They often accused Lisa Jackson, the agency’s previous boss, of disregarding the cumulative impact of its many clean-air rules, and suffocating industry as a result.
Strip sb. of sth.剥夺某人某事;
disregarding the cumulative impact of:忽视......
Suffocating:
5、He shares the president’s enthusiasm for renewable power and other nascent green technologies, but he has also spoken in favour of building more nuclear reactors and of natural gas as “a bridge” to a low-carbon future.
Renewable:可再生的;
in favour of:支持;
low-carbon:低碳的;
6、 However, the new output will benefit America, both by creating jobs and by bringing down energy bills as cheap gas replaces coal and oil. Temper:n.脾气v.是缓和;
7、American taxpayers are just subsidising Chinese consumers, they say. But ensuring free navigation has always been an essential feature of American primacy. Abandoning it might encourage China and India to build ocean-going navies to vie with America’s.

Subsidise:给......补助;
Primacy:首要,至高无上;
Vie:激烈竞争 vie with sb. for sth.
