　　Thetwo pie charts give some information about the percentage of pollutants that entered a particular part of ocean in 1997 and 2007.

　　Thequantities of domestic sewage entering the ocean increased from 18 per cent to29 per cent during the ten-year period. They were the same with those ofpollutants from air in 2007. 14 per cent of pollution was from offshore oil,which was about three times the figure ten years ago.

　　Bycontrast, industrial waste and marine saw a drop of 8 per cent and 5 per cent respectively during this period. The pollution from litter accounted for 4 percent in 1997. However, it is interesting to note that there was no litter inthis part of ocean in 2007. As to the amount of pollutants from air and farmwaste, it was roughly unchanged.

　　Overall,the pollution from domestic sewage and offshore oil increased while there was adrop in the amount ofother pollution.

　　Whetherart classes (like painting and drawing) should be regarded as compulsorylessons in high school has been a hot debate among academics. Personally, as anarbitrary language and a means of self-expression, paintings and drawings areas important as other primary academic subjects such as English and Mathematics.However, there is no need to set up a painting required course.

　　Itis well-recognised that painting is a special language which can help studentsto improve their reasoning and imagination. Therefore, through painting and drawing learning, students can have a better aesthetic value to appreciate the real history and the current world. For example, Cloud Monet’s oil paintings reflect beautiful scenery in France in 19 century. Besides, painting is beneficial for students to get relaxed and create a peaceful mood. As we know,a person usually immerses himself in image creation when he draws a picture.

　　Although painting learning is helpful, it is not necessary to add a compulsory painting class in school’s curriculum. If learning painting and drawing takes upstudents’valuable time, they may seldom review their textbooks and academictasks after school. Also, the basic requirement of a good student is his good academic performance rather than painting lover. In addition, high school students should focus more on main majors because they need to face a fiercely competitive university entrance exam after all. Painting can be learnt as ahobby but cannot substitute the academic classes.

　　In conclusion, painting is beneficial for students’ personal development, but itis better to be an extracurricular activity in the high school.
