Currently, schools have witnessed an increasing rate of cheating among students,so several ways that may help reducing the occurrence of such phenomena come into sight. Some contend that requiring parents to keep an eye on their children while they are doing homework or upgrading the difficulty of the assignment can serve the purpose. However, I believe that the heavy punishment imposed on cheating students is the most effective approach.
目前,学校学生的作弊率越来越高,因此有几种方法可以帮助减少这种现象的发生。有人认为家长监督学生做作业或提高作业难度有助于达到目的。然而,我认为对作弊学生的重罚是最有效的方法。
Enabling students to be more aware of the seriousness of cheating, harsher punishment can immediately cut the rate of academic misconduct. That the young attempt to copy others’ homework or any other sources on the Internet is mainly because they are eager to gain a high score without actually infusing any personal efforts. If there were no more severe penalty for such kind of behavior, this shortcut would only be spread as a “smart trick” among students. Then the value that one can also achieve what he wants without necessary endeavor could soon become so popular that people would attach increasingly less importance to originality and self-made success, which is absolutely detrimental to shaping teenagers’ personality, as well as social development. Just as the law has the deterrent force to warn people to avoid doing the illegal stuff, to draw up stricter punishment such as removing cheating ones from school and leaving a permanent record in their files can make students realize that there will be a consequence for cheating too serious for them to bear. Therefore, they will not even think about it. Compared to the rule in China that if the examinee is caught cheating, only the result of that specific subject will be invalid, the United States follow a set of more rigorous rules. Once a student copies others’ assignment, he will be expelled from the school and a foreign student is also forced to leave America within 15 days. As can be seen, the originality in American culture enjoys an obvious advantage over others, to which forbidding plagiarism contributes a lot.
使学生进一步意识到作弊的严重性,严厉的惩罚可以迅速降低学术不端行为的发生率。年轻人抄袭别人的作业或从网上其他来源抄袭,主要是因为他们渴望不用投入任何个人努力就能获得高分。如果此类行为再没有严厉惩罚的话,这种捷径只会在学生中传播开来。然后,人可以不通过自己的努力就能获得他想要的东西这种价值观就会很受欢迎以至于人会越来越不重视创意和自力更生收获的成功,这对于青少年人格的塑造以及社会的发展绝对是有害的。正如法律警告人们避免做违法犯罪事情的威慑力,制定严格的处罚去除作弊的学校,通过把他们的作弊记录在档案上可以使学生意识到作弊要承担很严重的后果。这样的话,他们就不会去想作弊这件事。在中国,如果考生作弊被抓,只是取消作弊人的考试成绩;而美国遵循一套严格的规则。一旦学生抄袭了别人的作业,他将被学校开除,外国学生会被要求必须在15天内离开美国。美国文化中的独创性比其他文化具有明显的优势,其中禁止抄袭就有很大的贡献。
Admittedly, parents’ supervision can prevent children from cheating to some extent, but the scope that parents can reach is limited to home, so students can also take advantage of their time at school and in other places to have a look at other classmates’ work. Therefore, it cannot fundamentally eliminate the psychology of depending on others’ working result. Besides, anotherresort to the methodisthat the teachers and professors can design more difficult homework, which requires more individual and creative thinking, but a closer look at this reveals a more complex picture. 当然,家长的监督在一定程度上可以防止孩子作弊,但家长可以接触的范围仅限于家庭,学生可以利用他们在学校和其他地方的时间去抄袭其他同学的工作。因此,不能从根本上消除依赖他人学习成果的心理。此外,还有种解决办法就是教师和教授可以设计出难度更大的作业,这需要教师更多创造性的思考,仔细想一下就会发现这其实很复杂。一方面,有作弊想法是学生的错误,不应该增加教师的工作负荷,让他们不断地提供新的、精心设计的测试。另一方面,学生们总能想出新的方法来处理新的任务,这其实不应该是学习的首要问题。
To sum up, the inspection from parents and specially programed tasks from teachers are merely temporary solutions to the general phenomenon of cheating. To really approach the problem of high cheating rate, raising the cost of this sort of misconduct is recommended the most.
综上所述,父母的监督和教师精心设计学习任务只是暂时性的解决作弊的方案。要真正解决作弊率高的问题,强烈建议加重这种不当行为的后果。
