Friends are indispensable in our life, so choosing friends is of great importance. Some people believe that it is important to have friends who have the ability to assist us when we need them, while others claim that when making friends we should choose those who can bring us fun and enjoyment.
The first reason that I firmly believe that friends who can have fun with us are vital lies in the fact that people nowadays are under great pressure, friends who can have fun with us can make us healthy mentally. Few people can really feel happy, so friends who can make us laugh to our hearts’ content is especially important in this day and age. We will feel genuinely relaxed and comfortable when we are with them. For example, I consider Jim to be the most important friend although he cannot help me when I have problems with my job. As a matter of fact, I always give him some help when he runs his company or needs someone to translate files. The reason is simple, he is always optimistic and can invariably have fun with me when I end a whole day’s work.
Second, being pure, innocent and autonomous is significant in this hectic society. Choosing friends who can have fun with us makes our life simple. On the contrary, if we always think of making friends with people who can help us, we will unavoidably try to please them, which is more likely to make us sophisticated and slick. It is not uncommon to see many young people stoop to flattery just because they desire to associate with people who have enormous power and high status.
Last but not least, it is true that people who have helpful friends are lucky. However, more often than not, when a friend helps us we, more or less, will feel that we owe him a favor and may think of repaying him for his kindness, which will be a mental burden.
From the above analysis, we can draw the conclusion that if people want to live a relaxed , simple and independent life, it is more important to keep in contact with friends who can have fun with us instead of making friends who have the ability to help us. (384字)
