Would you prefer to live in a traditional house or in a modern apartment building? Use specific reasons and details to support your choice.
I know there are advantages to living in a modern apartment, but I'd prefer to live in a traditional house. My main reason is that I love the intimacy, design, and warmth of traditional homes. I think modern design is very empty and sterile and not very inviting. Because of the way it appears and feels, I'd choose a traditional house.
I recognize the fact that a modern apartment would be in much better shape. Being new probably means all the plumbing works, the roof isn't going to leak, the windows are properly sealed, and the kitchen appliances are in working order. A traditional house, one likely built years or even decades ago, can't guarantee any of that. Due to a traditional home’s age, there is a greater likelihood that it would fall apart piece by piece.
Still, if the appliances are old, so is the wood, and that's a big advantage as far as I'm concerned. Very few new buildings have the high-quality kinds of wood that were used years ago, which is something that can't be fabricated.
Space is always important to me, too. I need a lot of room for my home office, my clothes, and to display all the knickknacks I've picked up in my travels. I also like to have interesting spaces that don’t all conform to boxy designs or modern layouts. A modern apartment usually comes in one size and shape, with very little individual character. A traditional house is going to have a variety of spaces where I can put little tables or a window seat. And it would have lots of room, from basement to attic. These are all good reasons to prefer living in a traditional house.
Some people love modern design, but it's not for me. The space and beauty of a traditional home are more important to me than having everything new and sterile and perfect.
