In your country, is there more need for land to be left in its natural condition or is there more need for land to be developed for housing and industry? Use specific reasons and examples to support your answer.
In a populous country such as China, intense disputes frequently occur as to how to use land. The need for more land for housing and industry seems so reasonable that we are indeed losing more and more wild land. However, we should keep land in its natural condition rather than develop it for housing and industry.
First, ecological security outweighs economic need. There is literally no wild land, because land, with wildlife living on it, is a necessary part of ecological chain. For example, we used to consider swamp useless, but now wetland is classified as one of the most important natural resources. We tend to value a piece of land by its market price. However, the real value of land not only includes the market price, but also includes its contribution to ecological environment and social welfare. We often prioritize immediate needs rather than long-term and potential interests. However, the ignorance of these choices will catch up with us sooner or later. For instance, after suffering frequent sandstorms, China began to restore some farmland to its original condition, grassland or forestland. Unfortunately, it is often too late to realize the real value of the environment when ecological disasters happen.
Second, land is a kind of exhaustible resources; we should preserve land for future use. Though land does not extinct as wildlife does, the function of it may disappear, that is, we can not restore land that has been used for housing and industry to its natural condition. If we have used up our land for housing and industry, we in fact have deprived our offsprings of the chance of using it for other purposes. On the other hand, land in natural condition can be used for any purpose in the future. Therefore, if we leave enough land in its natural condition for our future generations, we will give them more choices and options.
In a word, although the need for land to develop housing and industry may be urgent and economically reasonable, we should be prudent with the use of land. To preserve land for future use is not a waste of resources; on the contrary, it is a protection of our environment and our future.
1、To preserve land for future use is not a waste of resources; on the contrary, it is a protection of our environment and our future.
2、First, ecological security outweighs economic need.
3、The need for more land for housing and industry seems so reasonable that we are indeed losing more and more wild land.
