To be sure, keeping pets can be quite beneficial in different ways. Imagine how lonely an old parent would become when his son or daughter, working in another city, can only visit him once a year for no more than a week. Under such circumstances, keeping a pet, for example a dog, can enrich an old man’s life by warding off the loneliness and solitude that permeates his life. Besides, allowing a child to keep a pet can enable him to cultivate his sense of responsibility. Having a puppy with himself, a child is more likely to feel responsible for its healthy life by learning how and when to feed as well as wash the pet.
让步段,解释养宠物确实有好处,在宠物身上花钱也理所应当。
However, things always turn to their opposites when pushed too far. It’s become not a rare sight in the streets that pets, such as dogs and cats, fed by their masters with the best food available in the supermarkets, are leisurely walking wearing clothes specially designed for them. All these would undoubtedly cost quite a fortune which, far exceeding ordinary people’s abilities to afford, could have been used in better places. Famine, for instance, has often been ranked among the disasters that afflict human beings most; many children in the mountainous regions of West China are still living under the poverty line and the supply of food remains in shortage for most of the year, not to mention new clothes and comfortable study environment. However, those people, who spend too much money on pets, are in a position to change those children’s life and future, perhaps, by just a little donation. In addition to this example, money can also find its better uses in ameliorating the living conditions in orphanages, asylums as well as homes for the aged citizens.
以“物极必反”为立足点,指出过多地在宠物身上的花费能用在更好的地方,举例说明可用于改变贫困地区孩子们的生活、甚至命运,此外还能改善孤儿院、精神病院以及养老院的生活环境。
