Do you agree or disagree with the following statement? Face-to-face communication is better than other types of communication, such as letters, email, or telephone calls. Use specific reasons and details to support your answer.
I agree that face-to-face communication is the most effective form of communication. Face-to-face communication eliminates possible misunderstandings, reinforces relationships, and encourages continued interaction.
If you are talking to someone directly, it is clear if they don’t understand you by observing their body language, facial expressions and their words. A person’s body language will tell you if they disagree or don’t understand your line of logic. You can repeat yourself or summarize your argument depending on the circumstance. Being face-to-face makes this an easier and clearer process. Emails have great potential to be misinterpreted and to distort what you really want to say. Your audience might be insulted or confused and then you would have to awkwardly explain yourself in another e-mail.
Talking face-to-face, communicates using more than mere words. People also communicate with eyes, hands and other expressions. You communicate with your whole body. People can sense a great deal of important unspoken information based on these other factors. This energy bonds people together and unites people on deeper, more direct levels. A relationship with a person grows much stronger when communicating in person.
Face-to-face encounters tend to last longer than other forms of communication. An e-mail lasts a second; a telephone call, a few minutes at the most. However, meeting face-to-face, shows that participants have made an effort to take the time to meet, and interact. When people speak together they often spend longer talking together than intended. This shows the power and important of direct communication that it often takes priority over many other things. The longer you talk, the more you say. The more you say, the stronger your relationships become.
Ultimately, if you want to establish a relationship with a person, the best way is by talking face-to-face. Communicating directly helps to avoid misunderstandings that may occur in writing or other means of communication.
1. Face-to-face communication eliminates possible misunderstandings, reinforces relationships, and encourages continued interaction.
2. If you are talking to someone directly, it is clear if they don’t understand you by observing their body language, facial expressions and their words. You can repeat yourself or summarize your argument depending on the circumstance. Your audience might be insulted or confused and then you would have to awkwardly explain yourself in another e-mail.
3. You communicate with your whole body. People can sense a great deal of important unspoken information based on these other factors. This energy bonds people together and unites people on deeper, more direct levels. A relationship with a person grows much stronger when communicating in person.
