Films can tell us a lot about the country where they were made. Though many consider films as entertainment, they are not only stories but also windows into understanding more about a culture. The producers and directors of films, while trying to bring us excitement, tell us something about the culture and values of the country they are living in. Take Forrest Gump for example. We can know more about the United States if we review it.
People love Forrest Gump because they like to be simple. Forrest Gump, whose IQ is only 75, is a simple man. He did not go out of his way to become rich quickly, though he became the owner of famous fishing company in the end. In a battle during the Vietnam War, he managed to rescue all of his fellow soldiers, ignoring the bombing and mines around him. In the eyes of some “smarter men”, what he did was foolish. He ran across the continent, making headlines. Many began to follow him. When asked if he ran for some special purpose, he answered he just liked running. He also ended his running in his own way: “I want to go home!” Many would balance the gains and pains of a decision first; however, Forrest did everything in a simple and natural way. It is because people in the United States like to be simple that they like the hero, Forrest Gump.
Besides simplicity, people in the United States value perseverance. Forrest Gump became a top runner because of his perseverance, though at first he could not even walk steadily. Many would give up in his case. He became one of the best ping-pong players when he tried his best to do it. In Forrest’s eyes, there is no shortcut, only perseverance. People love him because his somewhat stubborn perseverance is more popular than some “smarter” tips.
Films of course cannot tell us everything about a culture, but they do reflect some things that people value. It does not matter whether the story of Forrest Gump is true or not, we can still conclude that Americans really like simplicity and perseverance.

一、 语言表达
1. Though many consider films as entertainment, they are not only stories but also windows into understanding more about a culture. 这句话是个让步转折句，其中让步状语从句的consider…as…是把…当作…的意思。但是转折句重点在转折的部分，所以本句话主句为重点。在主句中，not only but also是英文中的关联词，它所连接的部分，重点强调与but also后面的部分，所以这一个很长的句子其实最重要的部分是在windows into understanding more about a culture.也就是电影最重要的(即作者最想强调的)是让人们理解一个国家的文化。

The producers and directors of films, while trying to bring us excitement, tell us something about the culture and values of the country they are living in. 这句话表面上看去是个长难句，其中while trying to bring us excitement,是个省略主语和系动词的状语从句，放在主句中间类似于插入语。主句中的另一个从句为定语从句they are living in修饰country，省略了that。其实在内容上这句话和之前的句子可以形成非常完美的对应，如这里的excitement对应上句话的entertainment，本句话的culture and values对应上句的understanding more about a culture。

In a battle during the Vietnam War, he managed to rescue all of his fellow soldiers, ignoring the bombing and mines around him.本句话的主句为he managed to rescue all of his fellow soldiers，这里的manage to do是试图做某事，其实暗示某事已做成功了的意思。之后的一部分ignoring the bombing and mines around him.是现在分词表伴随，这里说明阿甘在救人的时候，根本没有考虑到自己周围的炸弹和烟火带来的各种危险，从这个细节描写我们也可以看得出阿甘身上带有的那种珍贵的品质，简单而执着。
4. Many would balance the gains and pains of a decision first; however, Forrest did everything in a simple and natural way.前半句话中的表达 balance sth意为权衡某事的意思，这里说明了现在的很多人一种常见的反映，遇到任何事都是先分析得失，做出比较后再去行动，这种方式虽然很聪明也很有必要，但是违背了人的天性，不是一种天然的反映。而主人公阿甘所作出的一些反映都那么的简单自然。前后两句反义重复。
二、 逻辑结构
本文逻辑结构清晰明了。一共分为四个段落来陈述。正文部分均在围绕一个具体的电影“阿甘正传”来论证作者的观点，即电影能反映当时人们的价值观和一个国家的文化。第一段作者告诉人们看电影确实可以帮助人们学到一个国家文化。第二段，进入正文段落，在本段作者论述了阿甘正传这部电影的一些具体内容，目的是想说明通过这部电影，人们可以了解到美国人喜欢简单这样的文化特征。第三段同样以阿甘正传为例，人们了解到了美国人还喜欢有毅力的人。最后作者做出总结，电影虽然不能让我们了解到文化的所有，但是它可以反映当地或当时人们的一些价值观。
