Technology has made children less creative than they were in the past.
1. When it comes to the effect of technology on the children’s creativeness, the attitude differs from people to people. Some argue that technology has made children less creative than they were in the past. While others think that technology do have positive effects on children’s creativeness. In my opinion, I would like to support the latter statement for the following reasons.
In fact, technology can increase the creativeness tremendously. According to the statement, if technology has made children less creative, can you say that the children were more creative in the past when the development in technology was rather slow? Surely, you cannot because there was little creativeness either in the past for there would have great progress in technology if they were creative. On the contrary, because of the rapid updating of technology, the creativeness has been inspired tremendously. You can see it in the numerous inventions since the industrial revolution. Hence, technology is the very factor that increases the creativeness.
More importantly, technology can help to realize our creative ideas. In the past, people did have some novel ideas. Without the growth of technology, they had no way to make their dreams come true and these ideas were only dreams. For example, people imagined to fly in the ancient time, but that was only a beautiful dream because they had no technology to carry out it. Thanks to the development of technology, we can get all kinds of information and new ideas and things very easily through TV, radio and computer. These information not only arouses our curiosity and enlarge our views but also make sure that these creative ideas can be realized.
Based on the above discussion, the development of technology can inspire our creativeness and help us realize the original ideas. So, it doesn’t decrease the creativeness but increase it tremendously.
2. When it comes to the creativities of children nowadays, quite a few people would claim that technology makes children become (more) lazier than ever before; according to my rule of thumb, however, children’s creativities are benefit considerably from modern technology.
First of all, computers and the Internet inspire the intelligence of children, encouraging them to think and act creatively. The Internet provides a huge amount of information that is related to the development of children growth - either physically or mentally. That allows children access to a wealth of knowledge they are interested in. For example, those children who like to invent new games could gain much knowledge from the Internet, inspiring their creativity. In contrast, children lived in the past had a limited opportunity to gain the newest knowledge they interested in.
In addition, modern technology creates a sense of connection, contributing to the exchange of ideas among people all over the world - including children. The previously unavailable communication - such as telephones, e-mails, and the Internet - makes children have to deal with various relationships among their peers with different backgrounds. This helps children hone their social skills creatively. Confronted with the complex communication, children have to explore various new ways to deal with the relationship. In the process, children are gradually learning about how to make new friends, and how to forge old friendship.
Last but not least, there are more methods and mediums for children to improve their ability to behavior creatively. Plenty of online games, for example, are specialized for the development of children’s creativity, and help children improve their imagination and creativity while playing. Numerous books and magazines are published specialized in mental growth of children. Researchers are now exploring (more) better ways for parents who want to improve their children’s creativity.
By and large, although technology simplifies humans’ life, it enhances greatly the creativity of children by offering knowledge, methods and communication medium.
