Always telling the truth is the most important consideration in any relationship between people.

1.The traditional virtue of telling the truth in all situations is increasingly doubted by many in today’s world. Many believe that telling the truth is not always the best policy when dealing with people. Moreover, the line of a “truth” is becoming more and more vague. This essay will explore the importance of telling the truth in relationships between people.

We all understand that often the truth is offending and may not be a very nice thing to either hear or say. Lies or white lies often have their advantages. The manipulation of white lies is the most obvious the business world. How many times have we heard that some product is “the finest” or “the cheapest”? How many times have we heard that products have such and such “magical functions”? Advertising is about persuasion, and many would agree that if a company is to tell the absolute truth about its products, no one would be interested in even having a look at the products.

The same logic applies to human relationships. If your friend had worn a newly purchased dress on her birthday and energetically asked you if it was a worthy buy, would you freely express your opinion that you had never seen a dress as the one she’s currently wearing? And spoil her birthday? Unarguably, hiding (entirely or partially) the truth in some situations can be quite handy indeed. Confrontations and disputes can seemingly be avoided.

However, there is always the risk factor of the truth emerging sooner or later when telling an untruth. The basic trust in any relationships (businessman/customer, friends, parents/children) will be blotched, and would have an impact on the future relationship between both parties. The story of the “the boy who cried wolf” fully illustrates the consequences of telling untruths. No one will believe you when you’re telling the truth. Your word will have no weighting.

In addition, another “bad factor” of telling untruths is that you have absolutely no control over when the truth (of previous untruths) will emerge. Untruths breed pain in both parties: tears when the truth is uncovered after a period of time; fear and the burden of sharing a “secret”. In the long run, it seems that hiding the truth is not beneficial to either party.

Everyone hates betrayal. Even if it is the trend to occasionally hide the truth in relationships, it is strongly recommended that not to follow that trend as the risk and the consequences of the truth unfolded overwhelms the minimal advantages one can derive from not telling the truth After all, it is understood that relationships are founded on “trust” which goes hand in hand with “truth”. Indeed telling the truth is the most important consideration in any relationship between people. Always.

  2. There are certain considerations or factors that everyone takes into account in a relationship. People expect honesty, understanding and loyalty. Every human being possesses to some extent some of these virtues. Honesty sometimes is not the proper type of behavior in some specific situations which require some special consideration. In certain life cases we would rather lie than tell the truth not5 because we are liars. On the contrary! Sometimes we deliberately lie provoked by noble motives.

In a relationship between a mother and a child, for instance not telling the truth is a substantial part of the bringing up. There are general rules that every mother keeps in order to spare the disappointment of her child or prevent him or her from some fears. The most beautiful

Life about the existence of Santa clause brings joy and happiness for the child years on end. Why not lie them?!

In a relationship between a male and female humans there sometimes comes a moment when one of the partners would not like to tell ‘’ the whole truth and nothing but the truth ‘’ because the truth can sometimes hurt. It may hurt deeply and cause some devastating psychological depression. If a woman would not like to tell a man that his appearance is appaling or that his table manners are horrible she would most probably use a lie, which I call a noble lie, in order not to hurt the man’s feelings. She does not want to make him feel a lower level of a person.

Sometimes relatives and friends decide not to share information about the coming lethal end of a person again with altruistic intentions. Thus the dying person has the chance to believe in his bright future and the optimism that he is suggested may really give him enough strength as to really overcome his health problem. Positive energy and thinking are always preferable in any crucial situations.

Although everybody would like to be involved with honest, loyal people sometimes we need to seriously re-interpret their meaning, in order to realize that not telling the truth is not a genuine lie. We should also believe that telling a lie can save somebody’s life or at least make it much happier and meaningful.

  3. Although everyone may agree that it is generally virtuous to be honest and truthful in all of our relationships, we find that we often lie to maintain to simplify our lives and maintain our friendships. Clearly, always telling the truth can become cumbersome and impractical.

As our reputation is one of our most valuable attributes, it obliges us to be truthful when the truth matters most. But, in many commonly found circumstances it is often acceptable to tell a lie or half-truth. Dealing with children, for example, it is usual to maintain the presence of fairies and Santa Claus in order to create a sense of wonder and excitement on special occasion such as the loss of a tooth. With adults, it is polite to compliment a friends dress or meal to lift their spirits whereas it maybe more politically-correct not to say something that is on one’s mind. While in complicated situations, to be efficient with the truth may be acceptable in interviews and the like for the sake of brevity and coherence. If we were to be totally honest under these circumstances life would become unnecessarily dreary and exacting.

The main issue is not to be deceptive for purely our own benefit so that we profit by lying at another’s expense. Dishonesty is particularly odious when we feel that we have been cheated or let down. It may make us excessively wary of others, detrimentally affecting our lives and future relationships. We all want to deal with honest people when it matters: in commerce, in work and so on, whilst deception upsets our need for fairness.

In conclusion, even though we may not be fully aware of the truth of a matter, I believe that we ought to try to tell the truth in situations where our reputation is at stake and as long as we do not profit unfairly by our actions. However, it is usually considered socially acceptable to lie when it is for a just cause with noble intentions.
