People do behave differently depending on their clothing. The reason is not because they have changed, but because other people treat them differently depending on their choice of clothing.

Certain clothes are appropriate for certain situations. For example, a man can wear a suit to work and a woman can wear a skirt and jacket in order to look professional. When everyone dresses the same, there is no problem, as with uniforms. Imagine going to a law office to hire a lawyer. One of the lawyers is wearing a suit; the other is wearing a t-shirt. Which lawyer do you want to hire? Similarly, a mechanic works on cars all day and wears clothes that can get dirty. Wearing more formal attire would be strange and impractical.

People treat you differently depending on what you are wearing. It will depend on how well they know you and where you are and what you are wearing. If your clothes are unusual for the situation, they may treat you with suspicion or disdain. I remember once I had an old jacket. I wore it into a fancy restaurant for dinner and my waitress was both confused and somewhat repulsed. I couldn’t understand her reaction since it was still me underneath my coat. I was dressed like a bum and this caused the employees to react negatively to me. Consequently, I was even more polite than usual. This experience shows me that sometimes I do behave differently because of what I’m wearing. By projecting the wrong appearance, I had to overemphasize a quality which I thought was an indisputable and irrevocable part of my personality.

1. Imagine going to a law office to hire a lawyer. One of the lawyers is wearing a suit; the other is wearing a t-shirt.
2. People treat you differently depending on what you are wearing. It will depend on how well they know you and where you are and what you are wearing.这两句话合起来说明了人性的本质,即容易以貌取人,区别对待他人,原因就是这两句提到的what you are wearing, how well they know you and where you are。
3. If your clothes are unusual for the situation, they may treat you with suspicion or disdain. I remember once I had an old jacket. I wore it into a fancy restaurant for dinner and my waitress was both confused and somewhat repulsed. People treat you differently depending on what you are wearing.
4. Consequently, I was even more polite than usual. This experience shows me that sometimes I do behave differently because of what I’m wearing. Consequently, I was even more polite than usual.
5. By projecting the wrong appearance, I had to overemphasize a quality which I thought was an indisputable and irrevocable part of my personality. 作者只能用其他行为来过分强调自己的品质只是由于the wrong appearance,By projecting the wrong appearance,是方式状语,省略了相同的主语和谓语,这句话后面出现了定语从句which I thought was an indisputable and irrevocable part of my personality.修饰a quality, hich作从句的主语,而I thought 是插入语,之后的indisputable and irrevocable分别是不可辨驳的,不可挽回的意思。
People do behave differently depending on their clothing.
