托福独立写作机经中有上百道题目，如果每道题都反复推敲，不断斟酌，恐怕每晚都要头悬梁锥刺股了，而托福独立写作只占整个托福考试内容的四分之一，这样练习下来，会花费过多的时间以至于影响其他部分的练习。
所以，我们需要把托福独立写作所有的题目进行分类，总结出每一类题目的特点和解答方法，分别练习每一大类中的部分题目，对写起来比较没有思路的题目可以多加练习，这样就可以大幅度提高托福备考效率。
托福独立写作题型可以分为两大类，四小类。两大类分别是：绝对词类题目和比较级题目。其中，绝对词类题目又分为：有绝对词类和隐藏绝对词类;比较题目分为：横向比较类和纵向比较类(今昔对比类)。
有绝对词类题目
Good communication skill is the most important characteristic for a person who wants to become successful.
Most of business people are only motivated by the desire of money.
We should never be impolite to others in the modern society.
这三个题目中的the most, only, never就是英语中的绝对词，表达题目中所表达的观点一定成立，针对这类非常绝对的观点，一般情况下从反面论证比较简单。
隐藏绝对此类题目
托福独立写作中有一类题目没有出现以上的绝对词，但是其表达的含义却暗含绝对意义。比如：
Students should not take part‐time jobs while they are studying in the university.
Professional athletes, such as football and basketball players, do not deserve the high salaries that they are paid.
Can two people be good friends if one has more money than the other?
以上三个题目中虽然并没有出现绝对词，但是题目暗示了观点在所有情况下都适用，如第一题翻译成中文的意思就是：所有的大学生都不应该做兼职。隐藏绝对词类题目解体思路跟绝对词类题目一样。
纵向比较类题目
In order to succeed, you should be more like others than be different from everyone else.
To remain happy and optimistic when you fail is more important than achieving success.
People who have learned many different skills are more likely to succeed than those who focus on learning only one skill.
像这类比较两个对立事物的题目就叫做横向比较类题目，这类题目通常需要综合思考两个事物的优缺点。
今夕对比类题目
顾名思义，这类题目就是要讨论过去和现在某种情况的好坏，譬如：It is much easier for people to achieve success without their family members’ help now than in the past. (在没有家庭成员的帮助下，现在人们比过去更容易成功)
这类题目学生可以从自身经验出发，选择一个立场进行论述。
