The Limitation of Book Knowledge
Some people may think that the most importanttask of a student is to learn well what is taught inbooks, because books are the main source ofknowledge. But we often find that a lot of studentswho work hard on books and get high marks inexaminations are not able to work competently whenthey once enter into a career. What is the reason, then?
It is not the books that are to be blamed. It is because these students lack the ability tocope with the different practical problems arising in their work. They have not learned thingsbeyond the books. Books are only summaries of what people have acquired in their strugglewith the nature and the society. They can never cover all the things and happenings in theworld. Our world is changing so rapidly that not a few books become out-dated as soon as theycome out of the press.
Once we are aware of the limitation of book learning, we shall see that we should notconfine our study to books. We should accumulate our knowledge and ability through practiceand keen observation of the world.(198 words)
