Listening: Water flown by the turbines will be polluted by a kind of oil, which cannot be drunk again. However, millions of people depend on the great lakes for daily supply.
Sample answer:
Both the reading and listening are discussing whether wind turbines should be built in the Great Lakes. While the passage believes so, the lecturer casts doubt on the writer’s view from the 3 reasons below.
Firstly, in the reading passage, more job opportunities could be created for the locals, which increases economical benefits. On the contrary, the professor says that it is expensive for the company to build the wind turbines, so the costs will continue to increase for almost 50 years.
Secondly, the professor opposes reading’s idea that the great lakes are fresh water, which are suitable for turbines, and the maintenance costs will be lower. He states that fresh water is indeed good for the machine, but once fresh water freezes, it is more harmful for the machine, and it costs more.
Finally, the professor disapproves the reading’s idea that building wind turbines to generate electricity contributes to the conservation of water resources because there is no need to create more other resources with water. The professor points out that water flown by the turbines will be polluted by a kind of oil, which cannot be drunk again. However, millions of people depend on the great lakes for daily supply.

In times of economic crisis, in which field do you think the government can cut financial support?
1.Art
2.Science research
3.Parks and public gardens
Parks and public gardens:
投资和发展艺术能够给人们带来艺术的熏陶(nurture/edify/exert a gradual uplifting influence on),丰富人们的精神生活,陶冶情操(cultivate one’s taste),培养审美观(sense of aesthetics),这正是全民比较缺失的一点。
3. 相较于艺术发展和科学研究的推进,绿化和公园的重要性就相形见绌了(outshone/pale by comparison/overshadow/eclipse)。
