Task1 - Which of the following volunteer activities do you think is the most beneficial to the environment: cleaning the park, planting trees or joining a recycling program?
Sample:
I think planting trees would be a good choice for me. First of all, such programs are common in almost every city. Although trees grow slowly-I mean they don’t appear to be effective overnight- it’s easy to do such a good thing or our earth for an ordinary individual. Second, planting trees are beneficial for many obvious reasons. Green plants absorb carbon dioxide and emit oxygen, so they offset the green house effect we humans are experiencing and make the air we breathe cleaner. Trees also consolidate soil and prevent erosion in many areas. I know in China there’s day in March that all regions encourage people to plant trees-just for the reasons above.
Task2 - Do you agree or disagree that experienced teachers is a deciding factor to the success of a school?
Sample:
I agree with the statement that experienced teachers are important. First, students choose a school mostly because they value the education they are about to get in the next 3-4 years. And on a great level, the education process depend on teachers. Experienced teachers are qualified, not because of the degrees and titles they have, but the years of dealing with students and programs. They know about and understand the knowledge of their own fields, so they get what students need for academic and career reasons. So in this way, experienced teachers are more capable of teaching successful students-hence help building a successful school. Second and naturally, experienced teachers are mostly representatives of the school. They can draw the attention of potential talented students and make for a better chance for the school to succeed.
Task3
学生建议学校在dorm lounge建food station，让学生自己做吃的。对话中女生同意，她觉得去dining hall吃饭比较浪费时间，而且她爱睡懒觉，如果寝室区可以做简易食物，她就能多睡一会儿;此外，在dorm lounge做吃的能控制食材成本，比较便宜。
Task4
文章主旨是Convergent evolution，趋同进化。Lecture中讲了两种食蚁兽生物，一种住在非洲，一种住在澳大利亚，它们吃同一种昆虫，这种昆虫生活的地方很隐秘。而尽管这两种昆虫生活在完全不同的地方，它们都进化出了large, sticky tongues以帮助它们获取这种昆虫作为食物。

对话中女生想去看一个play，本来男生答应她一起去的，可是男生临时有事。现在有两个方法，一：男生把车借给女生，可是她没有开过他的车，也没有在交通拥挤的市区开过;第二她可以坐bus去，虽然耗时要一个小时，但是挺方便的。
Task6
文章主旨是铁路发展对美国经济进步的影响，一是促进商品长距离运输，二是给工厂提供更理想的选址。教授给了两个例子。第一，有个坐落在城市里的clock factory，原先因为交通限制，只能就近贩卖;而有了铁路运输，钟表就可以卖到很远的地方了。第二，原先很多厂只能开在有煤矿资源的地方，而铁路使得煤炭和矿石得以运输，这样企业就可以到更理想的比如劳动力低廉的地方建厂。
