The writer and the speaker have a debate on the function of the road. The writer puts forward three theories, which are opposed by the following lecture.
First, the writer claims that it was used to move commodities and people. while the speaker views this issue from an opposite angle. According to him/her, at that time, they didn’t have cars and other transportation, even they did not use animals. Besides. The road did not need to be ten meters wide, and one or two meters were enough.
Secondly, the passage states that the road was build out of religious reason, for people living in that area believed that their ancestors were from the north. However, the speaker casts doubt on this opinion by saying that people’s religious belief in ancient times may be different from that of today.
Last, the writer argues that the road can be served as the function of defense. By contrast, in accordance with the speaker, this claim does not hold water. If road was used for defense, there would be some traces. However, we could not find such trace. Furthermore, Enemies could take advantage of roads, thus making the invasion more easily.

1. sports能够让学生得到身体的放松。学生在学校的学习任务比较繁重,适当的休息十分必要。 如果学校可以组织学生参加sports活动,学生能够得到很好地放松,精力更加充沛, 从而上课也会更加集中注意力。相反,那些精神状态不好的同学很容易在上课过程中分心,难易集中注意力,从而降低学习的效率。 而且, sports可以让学生有一个良好的身体, 只有良好的身体才能让学生应对各类考试和任务。
2. sports过程中学生能够学习到很多重要的品质。 首先,运动能让学生学会坚持不懈(persistence/ perseverance) 举个例子;长跑运动. 当同学们感到疲劳的时候,他们会告诉自己要坚持下去,不要轻易放弃。慢慢地,他们的意志力(willpower)得到不断地磨练(sharpen),变得更加坚强。这样的品质也会在他们的学习中得到体现,他们不会想过去一样懒散,学习过程也会像运动过程一样持之以恒。学习成绩也能得到很好地提升。 其次,很多运动可以让学生学会团队合作精神(teamwork spirit)。比如,篮球足球等。这样的集体运动需要每个成员的配合。只有当大家各司其职,团队的力量才会发挥到最好。相反,如果一个队员想要自己在比赛中出尽风头,只注重自己的表现,而不注重整个团队的合作,整个团队也将会失败。最后,运动还可以教会学生竞争意识(sense of competitiveness)。在比赛中,为了取得胜利,学生会和其他的对于进行比赛,竞争第一名。这个过程很好的培养了学生的竞争意识,当将来应聘工作的时候,老板也会更加青睐这类学生,因为他们更加有想法,更加有冲劲(aggressive),正是这样子的员工才能给公司带来进步,注入新鲜血液。因此,sports的作用不能被忽视。
3. 诚然,art 和volunteer也很重要。Arts可以培养学生的审美观念(appreciate the beauty),也能增加整个社会的艺术氛围。志愿者活动不仅帮助那些需要帮助的人,也能为创建和谐社会做出自己的贡献。但是并不是所有的学生都喜欢art和volunteer。参加的同学会比较少,产生的好处远比不上运动产生的好处。
