The writer and the speaker have a debate on Roman’s ninth legion. The writer believes that they disappeared in Netherland, Scotland and Judea battle, which is opposed by the following lecture.
First, the writer claims that the ninth legion joined the battle of Scotland and then they were wiped out. while the speaker views this issue from an opposite angle. According to him/her, Ninth legion had more than 5000 soldiers. If they joined the batter, there must be broken weapons and remained equipment; however, no remains were found.
Secondly, the passage states that the roof tile is a symbol of the ninth legion. However, the speaker casts doubt on this opinion by saying that building roof tile required kiln, but there was no kiln in Netherland. So roof tile may be brought from wherever else. Anyone could do this.
Last, the writer argues that the ninth legions were wiped out in the battle of helping Judea. By contrast, in accordance with the speaker, this claim does not hold water. The ninth legion were in the west, however, Judea was in the east. It was not a wise choice to choose the ninth legion to join the battle. It took long time and much money. They could send the troops, which were closer to Judea.

It has been argued that it is important for government to fund space exploration, for it brings about enormous scientific merits. However, I don't think it is a wise suggestion.
Admittedly, investing space exploration may have some benefits. For one thing, people can develop and utilize new energy sources, alleviating the crisis of energy on the earth. For another, an alternative home can be found for human beings in the future. According to a recent survey conducted by the NASA，Mars has liquid water on its surface, which means there may live organisms. It is really a milestone in scientific history. However, the advantages of spending money on space exploration are far from people’s daily life. Governmental investment should be devoted to solving more pressing issues.
Firstly, government should spend money on infrastructure, because this practice conforms to the interests of the majorities. People, in current society, can hardly live without infrastructure. The more developed the infrastructure is, the more benefits each individual could get. On one hand, Government is supposed to provide citizens with highly developed system of public transportation. In most urban areas, the rapid development of cities and the fast increase of vehicle ownership lead to more and more frequent traffic congestions. If government could optimize traffic network and increase road-building，traffic problems can be solved quickly. On the other hand, investment on medical facilities also matters a lot. Advanced medical equipment offers patients efficient and effective treatment, thus protect people from serious diseases. Therefore, the advantages of construction of infrastructure far outweigh the merits of impractical researches.
Secondly, government should invest money in economic development, since the boom of economy will improve the living standard of the public as well as the raise of political status in the world. Take US as an example. America suffered a huge economic crisis a few years ago. The employment rate drastically decreased. During that time, president Obama, along with his government, focused on domestic development. American, through strengthening international trade and supporting import and export, attracted more corporations to invest local industries, thus relieving its unemployment rate. Hence, it is of great significance to emphasize economic development.
All in all，spending money on space exploration is not a sensible idea, money could be devoted to other aspects which are closely related to people’s daily life.
