Sample answer:
The reading and listening material have a conflict of opinions about people that missing on the ship. The writer provides three theories, which are contradicted by the following lecture.
Firstly, the passage claims that they were captured by pirates. However, the listening refutes this claim by saying that what's the main purpose of pirate is to demand money; however, they did not ask for money. In addition the valuable things were all on the ship.
Secondly, the reading proposes that the ship transported flammable liquid. Yet, the speaker disagrees with this proposal. If the ship leaked, the liquid would produce a strong smell，which lingered a long time.
Finally, the author suggests that the ship was sinking. By contrast, the professor thinks the reading’s claim does not hold water. The ship was floating a few days and the crew were experienced. They knew that staying on the ship is safer.

First of all, playing sports provides people with great opportunities to develop teamwork spirit. Taking basketball team as an example, when a player only wants to show off his/her own skills, focusing on how many points he/she could get on the match and regardless of other team mates, this team will be doomed to fail, no matter how skillful he/she is. In the long run, no one would be willing to cooperate with him/her. On the contrary, if the team could make best use of every player’s strong points and teammates could cooperate with each other, they could definitely play well. It is the same case in people’s workplace. When people deal with a complex project, the accomplishment can only be achieved when team members work toward the mutual goal. Even the most intelligent people cannot shoulder such great job alone.
Secondly, playing sports teaches people to remain an optimistic attitude. Just as an old saying goes: victory and defeat are both common in battles. Winning is what everyone wants; however, loss is inevitable. When in high school, I was a member of a women basketball team. Every time we encountered loss, we would feel frustrated. But our coach would encourage us that loss should not devastate us, for it was an integral part of growth of a team. After analyzing our weak points and the deficiencies of strategies, we picked ourselves up and devoted all our time and energies into training. Sports teach us that failures are not dead-ends, and keeping a positive attitude and learning experiences of loss can lead us to success.
Finally, playing sports instill people competitive consciousness. Modern society is full of fierce competitions. People, not possessing competitiveness, would be quickly washed out. During the sports competition, each member would make his/her best endeavors to win the match. As in many situations of life, a sense of competition wins a lot of favor. Take a job interview as an example. International enterprises definitely select the talents who are ambitious and aggressive, for those people motivate others work harder.
All in all, not only can sports teach us the value of teamwork, but also teach us how to remain optimistic and have competitive consciousness.
