Macarthur Girls High School is a large comprehensive school, with more than 1000 students, situated 20km west of Sydney and adjacent to the Parramatta River. Our core values and beliefs are summarised by the key word "PRIDE" which represents Participation, Respect, Integrity, Diversity and Excellence. Our purpose is to encourage young women to achieve their personal best and beyond, empowering them with the necessary skills to be successful citizens in an ever changing world.
Macarthur Girls High is a large school, with the 2009 enrolment figure being 1036 students. Approximately one third of our students live in the local drawing area, whilst two thirds are attracted from a wide range of out-of-area locations. Our new Year 7 students come to us from up to 50 different primary schools, with close to 300 applicants for the 175 available places.
The ongoing, strong demand for enrolments at our school is seen as an acknowledgement of the very positive reputation that our school enjoys in the broader community. Families are very keen for their daughters to attend Macarthur Girls High School.
Curriculum
At Macarthur Girls High School, our broad curriculum encompasses all the learning experiences that are presented through formal lessons, as well as opportunities for our girls to further develop their skills and interests in a range of extra-curricula programs and activities. These include debating, dance and musical ensembles, Duke of Edinburgh Scheme, Student Representative Council and community partnership programs.
Our curriculum supports our girls in achieving their full potential to take a meaningful and substantial position as future leaders within our society. We emphasise a strong academic focus in our teaching and learning programs, but our curriculum also promotes a broader education for the whole of life.
Macarthur girls can study subjects up to the highest academic levels. Support is also provided to students who have identified learning needs, particularly in the basic skills areas of literacy and numeracy.
Through our Macarthur curriculum, our students will experience:
quality teaching and learning;
a pursuit of excellence;
support in developing literacy and numeracy skills;
the effective integration of technologies in their learning;
opportunities to participate in performing arts, vocational education and sport;
support through appropriate welfare programs;
opportunities to develop their leadership skills; and
programs and activities that support our important community partners.
